When I go out for a shoot, I typically will return with a number of images that I can’t wait to share.  In the case of this Summer sunrise that took place at the end of June 2012, I ended up with two favorites.  The first was shared a while ago and featured a seagull that entered the frame at just the right moment.  This image sat in the queue waiting patiently for the world to see it.

For sunrise and moonrise shots, I rely on an app called TPE to help predict where the sun or moon is expected to show.  In this case, I wanted an image of the sun crossing the lighthouse and realized that Hammond Park offered the perfect vantage point.  As the sun rose, I slowly adjusted my position in time with the movement of the sun.  Thankfully, there was just enough haze at the horizon to keep the sun’s light from overpowering the image.  Instead, I ended up with this great red sun that magically appeared and floated to the perfect spot in line with the lighthouse.  With that as a backdrop and the harbor filled with boats as foreground, I thought it made for a great scene.  It’s great to have these warm, Summer scenes in the queue to bring out as the Winter takes hold.
