Steeple Chase
And now to late June and my venture up the ladders of Grace Community Church to the temporary scaffolding fora revisit of my From the Rooftops series. Here St. Michael's steeple appears to compete with Abbot Hall for height supremacy.

Turning to my 'to be posted' archive for the rest of the week and starting off with this image captured on July 2nd at 8:30pm. I had driven out to Chandler Hovey Park on this July 4th weekend and found I had the place much to myself for this capture of Marblehead Light adorned in string lights and backlit by a nice summer sunset.
Another capture from across the harbor on a Tuesday afternoon while scouting for foliage. This time I decided to focus on Old North Church rather than Abbot Hall or Marblehead light and found great light and a nice collection of boats in the harbor to tie the composition together. You can just make out the first signs of fall color in the canopy of tree cover.
I managed to catch one other sailboat during my outing on Tuesday afternoon. Exactly 20 seconds after capturing the sailboat crossing in front of Abbot Hall, I turned and caught this boat sailing by the Corinthian Yacht Club. Reminder: I will be at the Fall Fair in the Lee Mansion gardens on Saturday, October 1 from 10am to 2pm with my 2023 Marblehead Calendars available for purchase. There will be lots of vendors including Bent Water brewing so please stop by on what promises to be a beautiful fall day.
Yesterday, I drove around Marblehead to get a sense of fall colors on what will likely be a muted foliage season due to the drought of summer. I found little in the way of color but decided to get out of my car when I reached Foster Street on the Neck. I made my way to one of my favorite spots at the edge of the Pleon pier and waited for a cloud to pass so that some sun could make its way to the surprisingly full harbor. As the sunlight appeared, so did a sailboat making its way up [...]
A bit of a late post this morning as I had taken yesterday and today off for Rosh Hashana. Happy New Year to all who celebrate! This image came from mid-June when I found myself on the wrong end of a sunset and decided to make the most of it by capturing sunset light reflecting off the houses along the Neck. As luck would have it, a launch boat broke through the glow of sunset at just the right moment and made for a nice final image.
What a weekend! I shot the Freshman Football game Thursday night since my daughter was cheering. Then I drove out to North Andover for the Varsity football game. Today JV was at home and I shot my son (a junior) playing football while my daughter (freshman) cheered. I'm exhausted but thrilled! I received an email a few weeks ago asking me if I might be able to secretly capture a proposal at Castle Rock. I immediately explained that wasn't something I had done previously and wasn't sure I was the best fit but was convinced otherwise. As luck would have it, the weather was perfect and I set up early to explore angles and options. It was my first time flying the drone in months and I don't think I had flown it over Castle Rock in at least a year (or two). I couldn't resist a few landscape shots before [...]
I'm going to profess my ignorance again and admit that I do not know what to call these two beautiful boats other than 'sailboats'. As we headed out of Marblehead Harbor on a quick trip with friends, I looked back and spotted sun rays breaking overhead. As we passed these two sailboats, I noticed the angles of the rays seemed to mimic the lines on the masts and quickly composed this image to capture the two boats on their moorings, Abbot Hall in the background and a great sky above.
Back to early August and an afternoon spent captured Marblehead harbor in all its summer beauty under puffy white clouds. A nice summer shot on one of the last days of summer...
