Shining Bright

Another December image from the To Be Posted archive - this time with snow. Photos with snow seem most appropriate in late November and into December when they hold the promise of a new season but not yet the burden of shoveling. This one was captured on December 19. 2020 in an attempt to replicate a favorite shot from 2009 which I have not been able to match since that New Years Eve so many years ago... Here is that old favorite amongst my top ten of 2009 (visit my website to see the gallery). Speaking of which, I'll need [...]

Morning Flight

I haven't shared a new image in a while so I dove into the To Be Posted archive and looked for images captured in the month of December. This one was taken on the morning of December 1, 2019 on a morning that started with an incredible purple dawn. I shared that image as soon as I arrived home but had taken a few more before leaving Little Harbor. This one required some quick adjustments as I spotted movement and had to get the shutter speed fast enough to capture birds on their early morning flight buzzing the calm waters [...]

The Dolphin Yacht Club is having their first Holiday Pop Up Event this Friday from 5-8pm featuring members including me!  Come and enjoy their awesome bar, have some take-in apps and dinner and shop your way around the DYC. I will have copies of my 2023 Marblehead Calendars that I put aside for this weeks ago as well as a selection of matted prints on hand. If you have been trying to decide on an image to order, I will have my laptop with my full catalog of images and can help you find a photo of Marblehead based on [...]

THANK YOU!

This was a truly incredible week which exceeded all my expectations and planning. I have been selling my Marblehead Calendar for nearly ten years and, without fail, every year, I have to up the order number. One month ago, I was convinced I had ordered wrong and began to stress about the calendar sales being a bit sluggish. Then Black Friday happened... This past week has had more calendar sales than the same period in 2020 and 2021 - combined! I went out daily to deliver calendars and didn't really think about the rapidly dwindling stack until this morning. I [...]

Giving Thanks and Free Wallpapers

Each year on Thanksgiving, I like to look back and give thanks for the support of everyone who has commented or shared my images and/or purchased one of my prints, calendars or book. It is the highest compliment that an image I captured would resonate so strongly with someone that they would choose to share it with friends or place it on the wall of their home. I started Wednesdays in Marblehead in August 2010 as a personal project to learn more about my new town. I still remember those early days when I would post an image to [...]

By the Light of the Moon

Last one from the night of November 5th and a different type of image than what I normally share. As I walked along the causeway exploring the best angle to capture sunset over the harbor, I spotted the moon and quickly realized I could probably line it up with one of the lamp posts.  I walked to a spot where I could get the moon 'just right' and took two quick shots - first focusing on the lamp post and then the moon. It's impossible to get a single shot like this in focus for both objects given the incredible [...]

End of the Season

So this was the view in the other direction of the lamp post that I shared yesterday - now you see why I felt that I had miscalculated my shooting spot... Still, I was able to get some color on the clouds over Abbot Hall and the harbor filled with only a few boats which seemed to mark the end of the season.

Natural Light

On November 5th, I had gone out to capture the last late sunset of the year but found myself in the wrong position to capture an unexpectedly strong sunset. I quickly pivoted and decided to make the lamp post on the causeway my focal point and kept moving as the clouds did to keep the brightest light behind the (unfortunately) unlit lamps. Just goes to show that natural light really does outshine the artificial stuff...

Marblehead Dawn in Four Parts

After the lunar eclipse and when no hope for the reappearance of the moon remained, I stood and watched as dawn turned to sunrise and the colors in the sky gradually changed as did the light on Abbot Hall. With my camera on a tripod, I was able to depress my remote shutter release and did so four times from 6:17 am to 6:27 am.  I was left with four identical compositions changed only by the amount of sunlight on the scene. And yet, they came out so wildly different that I thought it interesting to share. I can't decide [...]

Bench Under the Light of the Moon

And here is the last of five images captured on Sunday, November 6th. This is the image I had in mind when I left the house (though I planned on getting the moon rising lower and to the left of Brown's Island). When the moon failed to appear, I pivoted and captured an unexpectedly amazing sunset. But when that sunset faded, I walked down Beacon and found the moon finally exiting the clouds. I captured this image of it making sure to include Brown's Island and the hints of fall color. It wasn't until my daughter came into my office [...]
