The Long View at Redds Pond

It's easy to stop at the entrance to Redds Pond and take a shot across the water at the facade of Pond View squared up against the water. It's so easy that I often forget about the long view that can be seen just a quick stroll down the path as in this image from July 21, 2014. From a slightly different location, the view of the house and its place on the pond seems drastically altered. I'll have to remember to walk down this path again sometime soon...

Fogged in at Redds

May just might be the foggiest month in Marblehead as a trip through the 'to be posted' archive had me deciding between several images of fog for today's post. This image comes from an outing on May 29, 2015 and the perfect view of the house across the pond surrounded by trees filled with foliage of various colors. A nice bright counter to the grey fog hanging over the water and overhead.

Counting Down the Days

As of today, the causeway is officially closed to pedestrians. With a fairly narrow sidewalk serving two way pedestrian traffic and the concerns for spreading coronavirus, the causeway will be closed until further notice. While I understand the concerns of those who will miss walking this great stretch of road that divides the Atlantic Ocean and our own Harbor, I completely support the decision to try to stem the tide of infection that is so easily transmitted. There has been at least one study of droplets and the effect of the slipstream formed from brisk walking, running or biking that [...]

Amby’s Bop

We had thick fog enveloping Marblehead on July 21, 2014 and I decided to head over to Beacon Street to see what images awaited with boats moored in the smaller harbor. I happened upon one boat named Amby's Bop and decided to capture it with only the faintest outline of Brown's Island visible in the distance. Imagine my surprise when I zoomed in later and found the photographer Ulrike Welsch's name and number written inside the boat's hull.

Quiet Reflections at Redd’s Pond

I shared images from 2011 to 2013 last week and thought I would move forward to the 2014-2015 'To be Published' folder for the next two week. Today's image was captured on July 21, 2014 at just before 7pm when a soft fog created a perfect mood for quiet reflections at Redd's Pond.

Aglow at Old Burial Hill

I spent a rainy Sunday looking through my oldest images in my To Be Published folder and decided to share some from 2011 to 2013 this week.  This image was captured on July 21, 2104 when I headed to Old Burial Hill as fog rolled into Marblehead and the sun descended in the sky. The backlit fog set Old Burial Hill aglow in beautiful light.

Foggy Summer Sunset at Chandler Hovey Park

I was looking through my to-be-posted folder and stopped when I happened upon this shot of a foggy summer sunset at Chandler Hovey Park. With the clouds so high in the sky, I had switched to my wide angle lens and composed this image from near the parking lot. The effect of the distance and wide angle was to make Marblehead Light appear diminutive with so much empty space around it. I think it helped accentuate the feel of a foggy summer evening in Marblehead - can't wait for more of those...

Beacon of Light in the Fog

On Sunday night after capturing the image of the Christmas tree on the First Harbor dinghy, I turned towards Marblehead Light and noticed that it was the only sign of color on this foggy night. I decided to capture the lighthouse decked out in strings of lights for the holiday using a long-exposure. The 30 second image time served to calm the waters of little harbor and accentuate the foggy mood looking out past Gerry Island towards Chandler Hovey Park. The small aperture of the lens also helped add a small star to the light produced by the green beacon [...]

In a Fog on the Neck

On Wednesday, August 8th, I headed out to shoot some aerial images around Castle Rock and shared one image with the drone a few feet above the waves.  Shortly after taking that shot, I flew up to 400 feet and noticed fog developing over the Neck.  I quickly flew down toward Flying Point and found this composition showcasing the fine layer of fog over the middle of Marblehead Neck with a lone boat moored off the coastline. You can just make out the lighthouse in the distance as well as boats in the harbor beyond.
