I would like to introduce you to my newest project in exploring the town of Marblehead – shooting from the rooftops.  At the end of August, I found myself on a bike ride through town trying to scout out new locations.  At some point, I began to notice all of the widow walks that dotted the rooftops.  By the time that I hit The Landing and saw the deck on top of the Harbor Wharfs Condo, I had decided to make this into a new project.

I wrote a letter and tried to contact a number of residents whose houses included rooftop decks or widow walks.  I was amazed by the generosity of the residents of this town who invited me into their homes for the simple act of sharing their breathtaking views with others.  My first stop was at the Harbor Wharfs Condo which is run by Phil Blaisdell and his wife as a ‘romantic getaway apartment’.  The condo itself was wonderful but the rooftop deck facing the harbor was incredible.  I took a number of photos from there but this one is what I had in my mind’s eye at the start of this project.  An almost birds-eye view of the houses on State Street under a late Summer blue sky.

I plan on sharing more photos on ‘Rooftop Thursday’ to go along with ‘Local Business Friday’.  Hope you enjoy this series as much as I do in capturing it.  And, if you happen to have an accessible roof deck/widow’s walk, I would love to hear from you!
