I grew up in California and attended UC Berkeley (Cal) in the 1990s. I stayed in San Francisco for one year before attending medical school on the East coast and staying here ever since. I hadn’t been back to San Francisco in 25 years but had an opportunity to fly out there for a few days and catch a Cal football game with my former roommate so I jumped at the chance.

I only had a few days and, as a photographer at heart, that meant doing a lot of pre-planning for photography opportunities. I came up with a plan and made sure to stay on East coast time to make the pre-dawn shoots feasible. By the time the 3 days were done, I had shot at every site I hoped to (except atop the Coit Tower) and ended up walking 27 miles and the equivalent of 100 flights of stairs.
