Though the weather forecasters all predicted cold and a wintry mix for Sunday, November 2nd, I don’t think I was the only one surprised when the snow started falling in significant amounts and actually sticking.  The strong winds during the start of the storm made shooting impossible but, around 1pm, the winds died down and the snow started falling more gently.  I grabbed my gear and headed out the door with a few shots in mind.

I had continued to scout locations with Fall foliage around Marblehead and drove directly to the first spot only to find visibility impacting the shot I had in mind.  I turned around and drove off towards Redd’s Pond instead but made sure to go by Gatchell Park where I had been watching the progression of leaves changing colors on the lone tree near the practice field.  Sure enough, the tree’s brilliant orange shown like a beacon through the snow and I turned into the parking lot with the hope of capturing this image of foliage in the snow at Gatchell Park.

I anticipated some wind gusts and brought an umbrella to shield the front of the lens.  Even so, it took some time to find a partially shielded spot from which to capture this beautiful tree in the midst of a Fall snowstorm.  I drove on to a few other spots around town but used the iPhone to capture video of the freshly falling snow rather than the camera as the wind had really picked up by then.  Here is that video if you missed the Facebook share yesterday:
