Since moving to Marblehead in 2008, I’ve gone out each year to capture the incredible fireworks show put on each Fourth of July. At this point, I’ve shot from Chandler Hovey Park, Fort Sewall, Little Harbor, Crocker Park and the cupola of a private residence. This year, I wanted to explore the area between Crocker Park and the causeway. As we became members of the Dolphin Yacht Club this season, I thought that might offer the perfect vantage point for capturing fireworks over Marblehead harbor.
I arrived at the yacht club early enough to capture a great sunset and then the harbor illumination (which is quickly becoming my favorite part of the evening). I then captured the early volleys of fireworks from two locations along the Dolphin Yacht Club on Allerton Place.
This was my favorite shot from the evening – the tail of the rocket leading toward twin explosions of light with the flares still visible along Marblehead Neck. Hope you had a great Independence Day!
