In early Spring and late Fall, the working boats of Marblehead Harbor tend to gravitate toward this section near the causeway offering protection from the elements.  On this day in May 2012, I had gone out at 5am in hopes of capturing a good sunrise but the thick clouds you see overhead snuffed out any good light.

As the sun rose in the sky, the dynamic range grew too wide to capture both the sun and any detail in the boats or houses on Marblehead Neck.  I therefore changed the composition to focus on the boats – especially when I saw that the morning light in the windshield and surrounding glass of two of the boats.  That bit of light added just enough ‘pop’ to make for a pleasing image of a Spring morning in Marblehead Harbor.
