This is one of only two aerial images that made it into my top 10 list for 2017 which surprised me a bit.  Aerial photography using the Phantom 4 Pro opened up a whole new world of compositions for me and allowed me to capture Marblehead in ways I had only dreamed of before.  Today’s image was captured on September 10, 2017 at 6:58pm.  It seems crazy to think that sunsets took place at 7pm only a few months ago as we are stuck in the short days of winter and 4pm sunsets now.

On this particular day, I lucked out with a really nice sunset and a pretty full Marblehead harbor despite it already being fall.  Between the whole of the Neck, perfect clouds and light, a harbor filled with boats, and the familiar Boston skyline in the distance, this was an easy choice for my 6th favorite image of 2017.

My original thoughts on this image:

Last week, I shared an image taken by drone of Chandler Hovey Park from ten feet above the water and the green marker leading into harbor.  Today’s image comes from a shot two minutes and 390 feet higher as I took the drone up as far as I could and captured the incredible view of Marblehead Neck, the causeway and a full harbor under a picture perfect sunset sky.

The otherwise clear conditions allowed for endless visibility and you can just make out the familiar Boston skyline at the horizon line to the right of the causeway.  With the remnants of Hurricane Jose sneaking up the coast, I wonder how quickly the harbor will empty this week…
