I was out yesterday looking for signs of Fall on a crisp cool day and found myself at Crocker Park at one point.  As I walked up the road leading to the park, I passed Herreshoff Castle on my right.  I have tried to figure out a unique composition for this castle in Marblehead but failed until I spotted the leaves changing color along the entryway.  I positioned the camera fairly close to the ground so that you could just make out the front door with its large knocker as you looked beyond the red leaves.  The sky cooperated well with deep blues set off by wispy clouds.

I looked up Herreshoff Castle for this post and found that it was built in the 1920s by an artist named Waldo Ballard.  The Wikipedia entry reports that the design was based on Erik the Red’s castle in Greenland.  The castle was sold in 1945 to the Herreshoff family and received it name.  Herreshoff Castle is currently a bed and breakfast owned by the Rubinos and you would be hard pressed to find a better location than this one on the steps of Crocker Park…literally.
