On the morning of December 30th, I headed out in hopes of capturing the streets of Old Town draped in a light dusting of freshly fallen snow. As the sun had yet to rise, I decided to head to Front Street first and capture the sunrise. Along the way, I drove down State Street. When I saw the wreaths on the lit street lamps and the shining star in the distance, I knew I had to stop and capture this scene first. The only spot that worked for the composition I had in mind was the middle of the street and so I had to stop shooting every time a plow would make its way down. Finally, I managed to capture the image of the ‘painted ladies’, the snow covered sidewalk, lit street lamps with their wreaths and that star shining in the sky. As soon as I saw this image on the back of the camera, I smiled and knew I had next year’s image for the calendar. Doesn’t get any more ‘December in Marblehead’ than this…
