I missed out on shooting May’s full moon and, when trying to decide on a photo to share today, came across this one from August of the rare blue moon. The blue moon is the name given to the second full moon in a given month. On August 30th, 2012, this one rose under perfect conditions. I shared a landscape oriented version of this blue moon but kept this portrait oriented one ‘in the archive’ to bring out on just such a day.
This image of the blue moon was taken from along Front Street on this warm late August day. As I mentioned, I had started shooting in landscape orientation but, at this point, the blue moon had started to go out of the frame and I switched to a portrait orientation. In doing so, I also was able to isolate the boat in the foreground and include the viewers on there as well as across Marblehead harbor at Chandler Hovey Park to the left of the lighthouse.
