On Wednesday morning, I headed out to drop off a framed print for a customer and then made my way out to the Pleon Yacht Club in hopes of catching the Optis heading out as part of Marblehead Junior Race Week. I got there in time to catch one of the last groups heading out and took some images with Abbot Hall and Marblehead Lighthouse as backdrops. As I was getting set to go, Dan Tucker (check out his great photography here LINK) offered to take me out and get a close up view of the action. I quickly jumped at the chance and we were off.
Action may be putting it a bit strong though as the young sailors had to make due with wisps of wind. We towed a few Optis out to the starting line and I tried to capture the small boats with their kid pilots.
This image of a gaggle of Optis (not sure what a group of Optis should be called but ‘gaggle’ sounded right) in front of Marblehead Lighthouse seemed a perfect representation of the day. The races continue today and tomorrow so head out to Chandler Hovey Park to watch.
