Just like Monday’s image of Mud Puddle Toys, this image comes 5 years after a very similar one.  I had captured the sunset over State Street in November 2010 and always meant to return for the sunrise view.  The position of the sunrise is such that it occurs at the base of State Street during the Winter and it seemed like I would get a perfect complement to that image with a sunrise version.  For whatever reason, I hadn’t captured State Street at sunrise until Saturday morning.

I began shooting on this morning along Washington Street before heading to State Street.  I started off shooting in the pre-dawn hours and trying to capture the shining star on its crane.  None of those images came close to a similar scene captured with snow on the ground in December 2012 and so I continued exploring views of historic downtown Marblehead along Washington Street.

As the sun rose, I returned to this spot and was fortunate to be able to set up in the middle of the street to shoot the State Street sunrise.  The color had reached its peak at this point and I composed the image to include the stately houses along this street and its gentle curve towards State Street Landing.  With the color of sunrise mimicking the light of the lamp posts and the addition of holiday lights around the nearest door frame, all of the elements seemed to come together perfectly on this morning.

Here is the sunset view:
