I went out tonight with a plan in mind to capture the full worm moon rising over Marblehead Neck. I arrived at my destination only to realize I had miscalculated the location of the moon rise and quickly had to change my plans. I started by heading to Fort Beach to get a sense of the moon’s location and the cloud cover and then consulted an app with a particular shot in mind.
This view of Abbot Hall is one I have never captured before. It was taken from immediately in front of the 7-11 at Miller’s Plaza (which also houses a Starbucks). I stood there with my camera trained on Abbot Hall and kept looking around hoping to spot the full moon. I knew that the chances of getting this shot were slim to none as the moon would have to rise in a perfect trajectory and reach a high enough point in the sky to make this particular angle work. I had no wiggle room to the shot as there was no view of Abbot Hall from any other spot in the plaza.
At 7:05pm, I had my first glimpse of the full worm moon and realized my planning would pay off. It was just a waiting game at that point until the moon reached the top of Abbot Hall and I captured this image. Unfortunately, the moon was far too bright even with the spotlights on Abbot so I had to settle for this version of the shot without the face of the moon in full detail.
