The annual Marblehead Epiphany tree burning is tonight at Riverhead Beach. The tradition of lighting collected Christmas trees resumed in 2016 and has been taking place on January 6th every year since (with the one exception last year when it was delayed 2 days due to arctic cold – remember that?)
This image was captured last year when the delay meant the tree burning took place under falling snow and made for some incredible photo opportunities.
I was set up across the street at the Neckrun Cafe where the slight elevation combined with my longest lens allowed me some really nice compositions. I’ve shared one vertical shot previously but also liked this one which showcased the gathered crowd.
Make sure to get there early as the parking lots fill quickly. This photo was taken at 6:20pm and, if memory serves, the pile of trees was set aflame with flares at 6:00pm.
Is there any chance this will be on live cam?
Wow! Great pic!
One of my favorite memories of childhood is taking the tree to the Epiphany Tree Burning. I still keep my tree up until Epiphany now. ?
