After a rain delay, the annual Marblehead High School carnival opened last night and welcomed teenagers to hang out among the rides, games and carnival food at Devereux Beach. My son was among the mainly seventh and eighth graders who took their place in attending this timeless tradition. I showed up at 8pm and spent an hour walking around and capturing a few images using scattered puddles from the intermittent rain to make for more interesting compositions.
This was my favorite image from last night with the Music Fest ride in full swing and the name reflected in the puddle below. You can see one group of girls in line and another in their own group either watching or deciding what to do next. There’s the one boy checking his phone and a nonchalant ride jockey walking by. The image seemed to capture everything that is great, memorable and/or unique about this annual carnival in a single frame.
I enjoy your comments as well as your photos! Thanks for sharing them.

So many memories from that carnival. Ani Murphy Robinson remember the Salt and Pepper Shakers?
Love the screaming face of the kid on the ride ? …. great photo . It makes me feel that I am there watching.
Fabulous! Love the puddle captured scene, the small town feelings I get as it duplicated my own feelings as a teen at the carnival.I got similar feelings viewing your evening ice cream photo in Nantucket.
Reminds me of a Norman Rockwell painting! Love small town traditions. And yes rain every year marks the Carnival coming to town ?
Beautifully captured!
you are the camera
The colors and the scene are so vibrant! So beautiful!
