I spent this weekend at a virtual photography workshop put together by Sony and learned several new ways of processing images that I hadn’t appreciated previously. As the instructors went over various tools in Lightroom, I chose some images from my ‘to be posted’ archive that I had never been all that happy with and tried my hand at reprocessing them. This September sunset captured last year from the end of Peabody Lane was one such image.
The original edit of this shot was way too dark with much of the color in the evening sky lost and, my favorite part of the image, the reflected light on the small rocks was difficult to appreciate. By adjusting sliders I had never fully appreciated before, I was able to bring out the image I had envisioned when I captured this shot. While the final image appears quite saturated, that was one slider I never touched in Lightroom. It was just a matter of bringing up the light present in the scene to create this view of a vibrant September sunset forming over Marblehead Harbor.
Huge thanks to Sony for putting together this incredible free weekend photography meeting.
