There’s only one good thing about the arctic conditions that periodically descend upon Marblehead – Sea Smoke. I had first witnessed the phenomenon in January 2012 when the temperature dropped to the single digits with a wind chill bringing it to well below zero. On that day, I was rewarded for braving the cold with a truly awesome view of Marblehead Light.
As the sun rose and the sea smoke continued to rise from the Atlantic ocean, I sought other compositions from my spot along Front Street. I have a few left to share in my ‘to be posted’ archive but settled on this one after much debate.
The lone lobster boat was moored at the mouth of Marblehead Harbor and you can make out Cormorant Rock in the distance jutting just off the tip of Childrens Island. The sea smoke was incredibly thick at this point and beautifully backlit by the rising sun.
Hoping for similar conditions on Thursday morning. Stay tuned…
