On Sunday, March 8, I awoke at 6:30am completely confused about whether I had gotten too little or too much sleep as we entered Daylight Savings Time.  Whichever the case might have been (it was too little by the way), I decided to take advantage and rush out of the house to capture the dawn and sunrise.

The last time I had captured images of Marblehead Harbor was the morning on February 18th when I found the harbor had frozen for the first time in years.  With that in mind, I headed to one of my favorite spots for a sunrise – Hammond Park – to check the status of Marblehead Harbor.

As I climbed a huge snow bank, I found a beautiful scene before me with calm waters and a bit of humidity in the air that made it feel like a spring thaw was upon us.  I found my spot and captured a number of images as dawn gave way to sunrise and was happy with the results of the morning’s endeavor.  As I walked back to the car, I looked back towards the water and saw the sun was perfectly illuminating the boats on the float.  I quickly set up on the walkway leading towards the float and captured this image of boats surrounded by snow with a warm sun hinting at the first signs of a spring thaw on Marblehead Harbor.
