On Tuesday, May 12th, I decided to play hooky from a meeting that promised to be both boring and less than useful by heading to Devereux Beach.  There wasn’t anything interesting predicted for sunset but, when I arrived at Devereux, I found impressive clouds with great structure extending up from the horizon.  As I waited for the clouds to build and for the sun to drop lower in the sky, I set up for a panorama along the causeway that would end up as a more than 87 megapixel image when all was said and done (I’ll share that later in the week).

As I headed back to the parking lot, I found that the clouds had grown in size and I set about capturing them.  Not 10 minutes later, I saw a brilliant bolt of lighting and my phone buzzed alerting me to a thunderstorm warning.  The lightning was clearly far over the water and so I set about trying to photograph a bolt of lightning (always more difficult than it seems).  I never did capture a bolt but I started to notice a hint of a rainbow underneath the storm clouds.  I shot frame after frame hoping to catch a wave at the perfect angle and hoping that the rainbow would brighten a bit.

This was my favorite shot of the night.
