On Thursday, August 3rd, I rushed back to Marblehead from my office to take part in my very first Marblehead Walking Tour with Bette Hunt. Though I have lived in Marblehead since 2008 and have met Bette Hunt on a few occasions, the timing of her walking tours never quite matched up with my schedule. As this was the last one of the Summer season, I made it a point to get there on time.
We started in front of the Jeremiah Lee mansion and then walked as a group down Hooper Street, through Crocker Park and along Front Street. Along the way, Bette told stories of this town from a perspective that only someone who was born here (literally – she ended the tour at her birthplace) could pull off. The walking tour was fun and informative and incredibly enjoyable on a perfect Summer evening.
I had only brought my camera and a 35mm lens hoping to catch a few snapshots of our leader in her element. As I walked by this house and spotted the sun backlighting the American flag, I had to stop and capture this still life while walking in Marblehead. I hadn’t converted an image to black and white in a while and thought it worked well to highlight the textures of this scene.
