It seems like forever since we had just the right amount and type of snow (not to mention the timing of the fall). This image from the morning of December 30th followed such a perfect snow storm. The snow proved just wet enough to stick to trees and the wind died down to keep it there. The snowfall amount wasn’t excessive so that large piles didn’t push onto the sidewalks and the salt was kept to a minimum. It was in such perfect conditions that I found myself on this morning. I first photographed State Street in what quickly became a personal and fan favorite (600 likes, 80 shares and over 125 comments at last count) and then shot the sunrise. I headed to Fort Sewall from there and back up Washington Street. As I drove down with the intention of shooting storefronts for my Keep It Local series, I had to stop as soon as I saw Old Town House.
The beautiful building was just picture perfect. The trees had incredible contrast with the snow clinging, the road was cleanly swept and no dirty snow clung to the sidewalk. The streets were empty (thanks to the parking ban) and even the Do Not Enter sign was covered just enough to not serve as a distraction. I first photographed a scene that included Abbot Hall but then walked closed to get this tighter crop. I struggled with which to post today but decided on this view. I’m sure I’ll add the other in the near future. Hope you like it.
