On Monday, July 29th, I drove home from work in the sunniest rainstorm I can remember. The whole way (all 3 miles of it), I wondered if 5:30pm was too early for a proper rainbow to form. As I dipped down Lafayette street and made my way toward the Welcome to Marblehead sign, I got my answer in the form of a bright sharp rainbow over Salem harbor.
With that, I called ahead and pleaded with my wife for a quick photo shoot. I had just enough time to grab my camera and head toward Marblehead Harbor. I tried to picture where I might have the best angles and tried to also come up with a reasonable close option as the rain had cleared and the rainbow was starting to fade. I ended up at the end of Commercial Street and jumped out of the car and down to the landing amidst the gathered fishermen. I quickly snapped off image after image as the light started to fade.
With my widest lens, I was able to get both ends of the rainbow and just managed to get Marblehead lighthouse in the frame as well. We’ve had a seemingly endless run of beautiful Summer rainbows and sunsets these past few weeks and I was thankful for the chance to witness and capture this one.
