On December 17, I headed out of the house before dawn in hopes of capturing the moon setting over the Marblehead skyline.  I had missed the chance to photograph the moonrise the night before and was excited about the prediction of clear skies and cold temperatures for the next morning.  There was a small chance for sea smoke inside Marblehead Harbor and I could only imagine what that might look like with familiar buildings above a layer of sea smoke with the moon setting above.

Sadly, the temperatures weren’t cold enough for sea smoke.  I did however manage to capture the moon set as the dawn broke.  After the moon had set, the sky took on a great blue-purple hue and the skyline came into incredible clarity with the angle of the rising sun.  I captured what appeared to me as a perfect morning looking out over the Marblehead skyline with the familiar point of Abbot Hall.

I decided to remove the empty buoys in the harbor as the final image seemed much cleaner and crisper without them there.  Hope you agree.
