On Wednesday, January 16th, a snow storm was predicted for Marblehead. It was supposed to be a fairly small one with a few inches expected. I decided to try to make the most of the opportunity and headed out at dawn to capture the event. As luck would have it, I arrived at Redd’s pond while the snow continued to fall. I have a few images of Redd’s blanketed in the white stuff but none of actively falling snow. I set up the camera on a tripod and grabbed the umbrella to keep snow from hitting the lens. The tricky part was getting the snow to freeze in mid-air. There was little light to work with and I needed a fast shutter speed (in this case 1/320th of a second) to keep the snow from looking like falling/streaking rain. I was very thankful that I had a camera capable of producing good images in low light as the ISO on this shot is a whopping 6400. A few years ago, that would have meant an image riddled with noise. In this case, the image came out clean and the snow hid any little noise to be found.
As soon as I arrived home, I worked on this image and made it my Facebook Page Timeline photo. If some of you have seen it before, that’s why. Didn’t really have a chance to formally share it on my site until now.
