I don’t know about you but I sure am glad that the storm is passed. That was a messy, angry, incredibly powerful storm that hunkered down off the coast and sent wave after wave and snowflake after snowflake at us. At last count, Marblehead easily hit 16+ inches and it felt like a bigger storm in the end than the ‘Blizzard of 2013’ (aka Nemo).
As with all storms though, there is the promise of a great sunset when the last flakes have fallen and the clouds start to break. With that in mind, I set out after work to capture the ocean and had plans to get a sunset shot at the end. I started shooting on the rocks at Bass Rock Lane (and moved just in time to not get pummeled by two waves in a row). I then set out for the Neck and started at Chandler Hovey Park before heading to Castle Rock. I ended up shooting from the top of Castle Rock – mesmerized by the huge waves crashing before me. It wasn’t until I took a break to clean my lens that I looked to my left and saw the sunset.
Now, there are sunsets and there are SUNSETS and this was the latter. The whole sky exploded in pinks and purples and I quickly got my gear packed up and headed down the rock. I ran to the car and made a beeline back to Chandler Hovey. As I drove the color got even stronger and brighter and a huge grin spread on my face. By the time I parked and set up though, the grin was gone as the light had rapidly faded. I ran to the edge of Chandler Hovey park and quickly composed this shot to catch the last of the color before it disappeared. I didn’t have much hope for the shot until I saw the image come up on the monitor. That grin came right back and I just had to share this one tonight.
