On Wednesday, February 19, I decided to wake up early and capture the sunrise from Castle Rock.  I had discovered the joy of photographing the start of a new day on my birthday the previous year and felt like repeating the now tradition.

As we had freshly fallen snow from the night before, I decided to drive to Castle Rock where I hoped to capture the reflections of the sun as it rose off the snow banks.  When I arrived, I found tracks along the upper section but untrodden snow lay below.

I set up for this shot at dawn and watched as the sky slowly brightened.  The sun came up as a red-orange orb and reflected its light in the ocean waters as well as the rocks and snow bank before me.  The combination of great light and pure snow made for a great scene.  This is the first of a few compositions that I’ll be sharing from this morning.
