I don’t think anyone of our generation will forget where we were on the morning of September 11th.  I have to admit to never quite understanding that concept when my parent’s generation spoke of a similar feeling with JFK’s assassination or seeing a man walking on the moon – but now it makes perfect sense.

As today marks the 12th anniversary of that tragic day, I wanted to find an image that might serve well to counter the darker connotations of the anniversary.  I looked in my archive and found this image taken on July 4th, 2013 before the sun had fully set and the fireworks show had begun.  I had set up this year looking out over Little Harbor towards the lighthouse.  As the sun began to make its decent, a few boats could be seen in the harbor taking in the view and the wind picked up to bring Old Glory to life.

Between the waving flag, the people in their boats and Marblehead lighthouse in the distance, the image seemed to be the best way to commemorate the anniversary of a terrible day.
