2012 began with a sunrise shoot from the roof of the Old North Church.  It was therefore with a sense of symmetry and a feeling of starting a new tradition, that I climbed the steps of St Michaels Church to shoot sunrise on January 1st, 2013.  Unfortunately, the conditions did not permit a shoot from the top of the steeple.  I’ll share one image from that outing tomorrow.  I did finish up there just in time to head down to the water and try for a sunrise from a new location.

I parked at The Landing and walked along the water watching the brightening sky.  As I reached the end, I looked around and spotted a plaque declaring this to be Pedrick’s Wharf.  I had chosen a composition with these boats forming a line leading toward the lighthouse.  As the sun started to rise, these great clouds appeared overhead and I quickly angled the camera up to bring them into the frame.  In this capture, you can just make out the sun coming up over the Neck with a tiny sun star to declare the start of a new day and a New Year.  Hopefully, this one will prove just as much fun and as filled with opportunities as the last.

In case you missed yesterday’s post, I have a slideshow of all images shared in 2012 (and 2011) available in the Videos section on the site.  Click on the banner at the top of the page or here: LINK
