Yesterday, January 23rd, was slated to be our first near-zero degree day in a while. With the recent moderate weather and ocean temps in the 40’s, I figured I had a good shot at capturing some sea smoke. With that in mind, I woke up early on Wednesday and drove to a few spots. Unfortunately, Redd’s Pond and Little Harbor didn’t have anything in the way of smoke. I crossed my fingers and made my way to Front Street hoping for better luck. For whatever reason, the water was smooth and smoke-free. I sat there in the car trying to decide what to do. As I did so, I noticed the clouds near the horizon start to form and decided to set up for some shots of dawn’s light as it hit the clouds. I composed this image to include Marblehead Neck and the Lighthouse. This frame had the best golden colors on the clouds and I spent a bit of time bringing out the detail in the houses (and ridding the harbor of empty buoys). It’s not sea smoke but I still like it…hope you do too.
