Today’s long exposure image was taken back in April 2012. The Spring is a great time to photograph the harbor as clouds are not an uncommon site and the waters remain free of boats allowing for longer exposures. With a full harbor, the odds of keeping boats sharp with exposures stretching to seconds and minutes become very small. On this day, I only needed to contend with one boat and tried to time this 5 second exposure when the winds calmed and the harbor was relatively still. The sun rays were the clear focal point of the image and I sought to de-clutter it by removing the empty buoys in the harbor. The rays were angled perfectly in relation to Abbot Hall on this particular day.
