Saturday seemed like a normal day – wake up, play some squash, get some breakfast…the usual. As I finished a game, I received a text from a friend with an image of crashing waves at Preston Beach. This was high tide but I figured the storm would have left and the seas would be calm at this point. Guess I was wrong. I quickly headed home and grabbed my camera for another outing.
I started off at Bass Rock Lane and then headed to Preston Beach where I got a cool shot with the anchor (image is ‘in the queue’). I then tried to go to Devereux Beach but Ocean Avenue was closed. Instead, I turned around and drove down to Goldthwait Reservation to see what the waves were doing. The ocean was really impressive and the light was incredible – a far cry from the drab grey skies I had been dealing with the past few days. I got an unusual photo of the houses at Goldthwait Reservation (posting that one tomorrow) and then walked down the beach toward the causeway.
I must have spent an hour shooting waves and the causeway and more waves on Devereux Beach. There were these great curling waves forming and bearing down toward the shore. I started to pan with each wave trying to catch the perfect curl and noted that Tinker’s Island was in the background as I moved across. I made note of that fact with the next wave and timed this shot to keep Tinker’s Island present in the backdrop.
Click the photo to see it larger as my favorite part is that hint of light where the curling wave turns in and starts giving off some sea spray to the wind.
