On Tuesday night, a good friend invited me out for a boat ride at 6pm.  My wife and kids were still in Virginia (I had been down there revisiting DC the prior week) and so I jumped at the opportunity.  A quick stop at Mino’s for dinner and a cooler of refreshments accompanied us as we headed down to Salem harbor.  Once on board, the sun cleared a cloud bank and we were treated to some incredible light.  Seth took me around Naugus head and Peaches Point and then around Marblehead Neck before heading out towards Baker’s Island.

As we turned back toward Marblehead Harbor, we passed what I later learned was North Goosebury Island.  The light was fading and the sky took on a soft purple color with a cloud bank in perfect position.  I asked Seth to slow and captured this scene at a number of different exposure and aperture settings hoping to get the light right and a sharp image of Eagle Island from the powerboat.  This was easily my favorite image and I worked to bring out the great detail in the island and the colors and contrast in the sky and clouds.  It seemed like a perfect image to lead off into the weekend.

I have at least 16 more images from this outing that I’ll be sharing in the weeks to come.  It never ceases to amaze me just how much beauty there is to behold (and capture) in this relatively small town of ours.
