Every Summer, Glover’s Regiment has an encampment at Fort Sewall with reenactments of battles between the Loyalists/Red Coats and the Regiment. It so happened that this year’s encampment would take place during the Full Buck Moon. I had a few ideas in mind and so I headed out to Fort Sewall on Friday night with my family to watch a piece of Marblehead history and hoped for good conditions.
The full moon rose on a beautiful warm Summer night and the timing of the rise in relation to sunset meant there were plenty of pinks and purples in the sky reflecting in the waters of Marblehead Harbor. I overheard that a sunset salute was to take place and followed Glover’s Regiment as they marched up to take position.
As they did so, I noticed a perfect spot between trees where the moon could be seen. I set up with this composition in mind and fired off shots hoping to catch some nice silhouettes. I had also thought to focus on the moon periodically as the long focal length meant only one subject would be in focus. Everything came together in this image with two members marching with rifles slung against their shoulders.
