This weekend, Glover’s Regiment held their annual encampment at Fort Sewall. The timing would prove to be perfect with incredible weather throughout the weekend and a supermoon making its appearance on successive clear nights. I couldn’t wait to share two images of the full moon this weekend but this image was an easy choice for next up to share.
As I waited for the supermoon to rise on Friday night, I overheard some members of Glover’s Regiment discussing a sunset salute. The thought of capturing a volley of musket fire over Marblehead Harbor trumped any planned images of the moon and I made some adjustments to be able to capture the image.
Glover’s Regiment began the sunset salute by marching along the path at Fort Sewall and, as they did so, I positioned myself to capture the scene under the light of the full moon. If you missed it, that image is here: LINK
They promptly lined up and I found this composition including Marblehead Light (not quite historically correct) and fired off my own volley of shutter actuations as the sunset salute took place over three successive volleys. This was the best of the captures with plenty of flames erupting from the old weapons.
