I skipped last week’s From the Rooftops Thursday entry in favor of a dramatic sunset so today we return to the top of Marblehead Light for one of a series of images capture on July 2nd as we climbed to the top of the lighthouse to hang lights for the Fourth of July celebration.

I began by capturing scenes of Marblehead Harbor from this unique vantage point but the red drapes and scaffolding around Abbot Hall forced me to look for other vantage points.  The exercise proved to be a good one as I focused on shadows and the windows of Marblehead Light exploring interesting compositions.

This is one of my favorites.  The view is through the window and door of Marblehead Light out to Chandler Hovey Park beyond but the reflections in the window highlight Marblehead Harbor filled with boats on this Summer day.  There is also a wealth of detail in the black painted surface of the top of Marblehead Light and in the rusting ladder leading even higher.  The net effect is a bit like peering through the looking glass at Marblehead Light and seeing familiar scenes in a new way.
