On the morning of October 8, a lunar eclipse was set to take place right at moonset/sunrise offering the chance to capture a ‘blood red moon’.  Unfortunately, the skies were not cooperating when I arrived at Chandler Hovey Park and found thick cloud cover at the horizon as a storm passed just to the north of us.

While I waited and hoped for a break in the clouds, the morning sun lit up the clouds in a brilliant purple hue.  There was very little light to work with and, even with a fairly high ISO of 800, the shutter speed wasn’t quite fast enough to freeze boats in Marblehead harbor.  Still, the purple dawn over Marblehead was a sight to see and I thought I would share it this morning.
