This is the third variation of the sunset cannon being fired at the Eastern Yacht Club that I’ve shared on this site. The first was a part of a collection that made its way into my book exploring how each of the yacht clubs celebrates this unique Marblehead tradition. The second explored the view of the sunset cannon being fired with Marblehead Light in the background. On this date, I had gone out to shoot the sunset and ended up at the Pleon Yacht Club. As the sunset petered out, I made my way a bit early to the car and noticed that the sunset cannon at the Eastern Yacht Club was ready to be fired.
I quickly set up this composition and dialed in the settings hoping to capture a nice plume of fire and smoke. The results made it clear I had to share one more image of this great tradition. Enjoy the Labor Day weekend!
