As I walked our dog tonight, I spotted a very vibrant rainbow overhead and didn’t even have my iPhone on me to capture it. By the end of the walk, I had figured there were better than even odds of a nice sunset so I grabbed my bag and headed out. I was more curious about the eastern sky so I headed to Castle Rock but the cloud formations didn’t hold much interest. From there I moved on to Corinthian Lane and then Foster Street where I found a nice vantage point for the evening’s show.
I started shooting as the sun broke through a small gap above the tree line and below the clouds but then found the light became more and more vibrant as the sun disappeared from view. This was the view at 7:58 (sunset at 8:00) and was just amazing to witness. There were such deep reds in the light overhead and reflected in the harbor below that I had to turn down the saturation when processing the photo so it wouldn’t look ‘fake.
With boats in the harbor after a very busy weekend and a fire in the sky, I was very happy with this image as a consolation for missing out on another rainbow.
If tonight’s light show is any indication, I think it’s going to be a good summer in Marblehead…
