The pier at the Pleon Yacht Club is one of my favorite spots for capturing a Marblehead sunset as it offers a clear view towards both Abbot Hall and our lighthouse with various compositions of boats to be found in between. On Saturday night, I headed to this spot a little before sunset as the clouds built up at the end of the day and held the promise of some nice light.
I shot from the float on the water until the sun dipped below the horizon and then made my way back up the ramp for a few final shots. As I set up for this one final composition, I spotted a couple motoring through Marblehead Harbor. I changed my settings to allow me to capture them is silhouette in the section of water bathed in the golden light of sunset and clicked the shutter just as they hit this open patch of water.
There’s something about having people in a landscape shot that instantly transforms the scene and allows the viewer to imagine themselves in the place of this couple exploring our beautiful harbor on a picture perfect evening.
