On Wednesday, June 5th, I was able to visit the fourth of our yacht clubs and capture this image of the cannon firing at sunset over Marblehead harbor.  I had phoned the Marblehead Yacht Club when the conditions looked good for sunset and received permission to head down and try to capture their cannon firing at sunset.  When I arrived, I introduced myself to the launch driver and designated cannon shooter for the night – Dan.  It dawned on me as I sought out a composition just how different each of the cannons had been.  On this occasion, I had hoped to incorporate the lighthouse and boats in the harbor but found that there were some families fishing across the way at Hammond park and decided to set up so that the cannon would fire into the lighthouse in the distance.  This put the crossbeam over the section where people could be seen.

This particular cannon sits in a notch along the wooden framing.  As the countdown began, I held the shutter down hoping to catch a small flame coming off the cannon.  I was surprised to see such a large plume of fire erupt from such a small cannon.  Only one more cannon to go…
