Shortly after capturing yesterday’s image of Marblehead Light, the storm clouds arrived and rain started to pour down on Chandler Hovey Park.  The radar was a bit scary with those areas of red making a beeline for Marblehead and I quickly got in the car and started driving home.  As I crossed the causeway, I noted the sun dropping below the heavy clouds and forming a giant ball with golden light exploding around it.  The rain had slowed and I quickly decided to turn around at Devereux Beach and head back to the Neck.

I pulled over at Parker Lane and headed down to the steps leading to the water.  I had to keep darting out from under the tree canopy that was providing some protection from the rain.  At this point (7:57pm), clouds were crossing overhead and the sun’s golden light served to backlight them and illuminate the delicate structures.  This was a challenging shot both in terms of timing and the large dynamic range.  The end result was a nicely dramatic image filled with light and shadows.
