Top 10 of 2015 – Lighting up the Harbor

The Fourth of July is an amazing time of year to spend in Marblehead and is easily my favorite weekend for photographing the town.  The fireworks display often takes center stage but the harbor illumination that takes place beforehand is such a unique and beautiful tradition, that I've made it a point to try to capture it as well. In 2015, I was on Marblehead Neck on July 4th and started off at this spot on Corinthian Lane capturing the flares lighting up the harbor in the last moments of dusk.  Hydrangeas in full bloom made for a perfect foreground with a harbor [...]

Top 10 of 2015 – Watching the Moon Rise

When the blue moon rose over Marblehead in late July 2015, I was more than ready with a borrowed super telephoto lens.  By shooting this scene at 400mm, I was able to capture an incredibly large moon as well as the people watching the moon rise from Chandler Hovey Park.  The juxtaposition of the beautiful moon, iron works of Marblehead Light and people in various positions made for an instant favorite image. The first of two moon images in the top 10 list reaches #8 in the Top 10 of 2015 Countdown.

It's easy to look back on the incredible Winter of 2014/2015 now with near fondness considering the amazingly mild Winter that we have had thus far this year.  On February 18, I ventured out at dawn to capture a frozen Marblehead Harbor.  We had deep freeze conditions for weeks and no snow leading to a perfectly frozen surface on the harbor.  With the Boston Yacht Club dock and clubhouse anchored in the ice, the composition was too good to pass up. You can make out fine detail in the ice which served to reflect the light of the rising sun [...]

Top 10 of 2015 – Leave a Light On at Mud Puddle

I usually like to wait a little while after taking and sharing an image to decide if it has 'legs' and will remain a favorite for years to come.  In the case of this image of Mud Puddle Toys and the corner of Pleasant and Washington Streets, I knew the moment I clicked the shutter. The response to the image was overwhelming and confirmed my early feelings.    Here is #10 in the Top 10 of 2015 Countdown.
