2018 Wednesdays in Marblehead Calendar has Arrived

This year's calendar marks my seventh annual Marblehead calendar and may just be my favorite one yet.  I set about choosing images last month and then got to work on the final selections, re-processing for the press and the monthly grids.  Finally, I had a calendar ready to go but the August image wasn't a favorite.  Luckily, it was now August and so I took a chance on a sunset one night and came away with a new favorite image of Marblehead Harbor from 400 feet up in the air. My print order arrived last night and I tore into [...]

Good Day for a Row through the Harbor

Although today's image was taken a few years ago (2011) and in a month you wouldn't expect (December), it seemed like the perfect shot to bring out of the 'to be posted' folder and share on this picture-perfect Friday.  I've shot the boats tied to their lines on Fort Beach countless times and in varying compositions but the light on this particular day was too good to pass up. With the clear, calm water, the scene seems to beckon the viewer in on a good day for a row through the harbor.

Stacking Rocks on the Causeway

Today's image is a bit of a throwback to 2013 and the Summer of stacking rocks.  Does anyone remember when new formations of stacked rocks would appear along the causeway?  It seemed that we had new ones form on an almost daily basis until the Neck end was nearly filled with these zen-like temporary sculptures. I'm not sure if they have shown up again since then...

Mixed up Causeway

Continuing with the week's theme of Marblehead's causeway, I happened upon this image captured in May 2012 and stared at it for several minutes trying to remember where I took it and how I ended up with such a mixed up view. On this foggy day, all familiar landmarks were removed from an otherwise familiar scene and that, combined with the low tide and floats barely visible in the harbor, left me a bit turned around when I looked at this image.  It came to me eventually that this was taken while standing on the harbor side just over Riverhead [...]

Giving Thanks and Free Wallpapers

Each year on Thanksgiving, I like to look back and give thanks for the support of those who see and interact with my images on my website and various social media locations.  I started Wednesdays in Marblehead in August 2010 as a personal project to learn more about my new town.  I still remember those early days when I would post an image to the website and wonder if anyone would ever see it.  After six years and over 1,500 images shared, I’m humbled that so many have connected with these photos of Marblehead and the beauty to be found [...]

Paddling past Boston

I captured this image of a stand up paddleboarder almost exactly four years ago.  I had gone out on what would turn out to be a lackluster Summer evening and almost gave up on any shots when I spotted someone taking off from Devereux Beach. With smooth strokes, the lone SUP made his way through the calm water of the Atlantic Ocean.  I thought the lone figure in the middle of the ocean brought a sense of scale to the shot and especially when seen paddling past Boston seen in the background.
