Snow Covered Steps at Old Town House

One last image (for now) of the Blizzard of 2015.  After capturing the expansive view of Old Town House from the front of the building, I walked around back and noted the smooth hill of snow covering the stairs leading to the green doors adorned with wreaths. I decided to focus on the snow covered steps at Old Town House to help show just how much snow had fallen during the 36 hours of continuous snowfall.

Frozen Steps at Fort Beach

Shortly after capturing the image from Lovis Cove, I wandered down to Fort Beach searching for more unique images as a result of the blizzard of 2015.  The most intriguing item was the frozen sea spray that coated the fence along Front Street as well as the handles along the stairs leading to the beach below. Unfortunately, there were cars parked along Front Street making compositions more difficult.  I decided on this one showcasing the nearby frozen steps with Fort Beach in the foreground and Fort Sewall seen in the distance.

Old Town House Surrounded by Snow

Another image from the aftermath of the Blizzard of 2015.  Downtown Marblehead definitely saw its share of snow but the road around Old Town House was very well plowed.  I switched to my widest lens for this image of the iconic yellow building without any cars on the street and snow banks visible all along Washington Street. Behind me was an 8 foot tall mountain of snow that had been cleared from the road throughout the night.

State Street After the Blizzard of 2015

By |2016-11-06T12:04:11-05:00February 3rd, 2015|Categories: Snow|Tags: , , , |

Continuing this week's theme of photos captured after the Blizzard of 2015 passed through Marblehead, we come to this image of State Street.  I've shot the houses along State Street countless times and have found a different composition on just about every visit down this street. On this day, I positioned my tripod against the snow bank on the right with one leg shortened and balancing on the 3-4 foot high pile of snow.  This allowed me to focus on the houses with their alternating colors along one side of the street.

Blizzard of 2015 – The House at Lovis Cove

By |2016-11-06T12:04:11-05:00February 2nd, 2015|Categories: Snow|Tags: , , , , |

All week I'll be sharing photos captured after the Blizzard of 2015 departed Marblehead having left an official total of 24.5" of snow.  Thankfully the cold temperatures resulted in very light snow and very few power outages.  However, the light snow and strong winds led to incredible drifts (I measured a 48" one in our backyard). One of my first stops on Wednesday morning after the storm departed was Lovis Cove to see how this brown house had fared.  I've captured images of the brown house at Lovis Cove at the peak of storms in the past (see below) and [...]

At the end of each month, I put together a one minute slideshow to review all images posted to Wednesdays in Marblehead. Here is A Look Back at January. [KGVID width="854" height="480"]https://wednesdaysinmhd.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/January-2015.mp4[/KGVID]

Sailing out of Marblehead

After this week, I think we all need a nice reminder of warmer days yet to come.  This image of a sailboat leaving out of Marblehead harbor was taken on June 7, 2014.  Won't be much longer before many of you are sailing out of Marblehead with the thought of snow just a memory.

From the Rooftops – Crocker Park and Marblehead Light

For a break from the snow, here is an image taken from atop the scaffolding around Abbot Hall in late November.  I have shared a few images from this incredible vantage point already but have many more still to come. In this image, I focused on Crocker Park and the surrounding houses with the Neck and Marblehead Light in the distance beyond a nearly empty Marblehead harbor.

Falling Snow on Old Town House

By |2016-11-06T12:04:12-05:00January 28th, 2015|Categories: Snow|Tags: , , |

Back to last weekend and the more manageable and picturesque view of freshly falling snow that settled over Marblehead.  I mentioned in Monday's post that I had captured images of Old Town House before turning toward State Street. This view of the iconic yellow Old Town House in the middle of Washington Street with the Bus Stop in complementary colors and Abbot Hall just visible in the distance was an easy favorite.  The early morning hour meant there were no cars parked on the street to obstruct the view.

The Blizzard of 2015

As I did for the Blizzard of 2013, I again setup my camera to shoot a time-lapse for the duration of the storm.  I started the sequence of every two minute intervals at 11:00pm and finished up a little after sunset when the snow finally slowed. During that time, I captured snow plows, the neighbor clearing his driveway, our kids playing in the fresh powder and my daughter's snowman slowly being buried. Here is the full sequence condensed to 23 seconds of the Blizzard of 2015: [KGVID poster="https://wednesdaysinmhd.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Horizontal1.jpg" width="854" height="480"]https://wednesdaysinmhd.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Blizzard-in-Marblehead.mp4[/KGVID]
