Last Blueberries of the Season at the Farmers Market

The last regularly scheduled Farmers Market of the season takes place tomorrow, November 19th and this seemed a great opportunity to bring back this shot taken several years ago.  The Farmers Market takes place every Saturday from June through October with two additional ones in the month of November.  Local farms bring in their fruit, vegetables, meats and baked goods to sell and several local businesses take part as well.  It's a wonderful way to start the day on any given Saturday. This shot was taken back in August of 2008 shortly after we moved to Marblehead.  I struggled to [...]

Keep it Local – Harbor Light Inn

The Harbor Light Inn is a beautiful bed and breakfast on Washington Street in the heart of Old Town.  I first entered this Inn after receiving an email from their manager asking if I would put together a slideshow of my photos of Marblehead to display during their breakfast.  I was thrilled with the offer and set to work producing a DVD.  When I delivered it, I was amazed by the beauty inside this Inn.  The Inn has been named 'one of the top 10 most romantic inns in America' and it is easy to see why.  The common rooms [...]

Marblehead Rowing Club

Today's planned Halloween-themed entry will be postponed due to snow.  In its place, here is a warm picture to help you forget about those early flakes on the ground in October of all times!  The Marblehead Rowing Club has a great mission statement: A community based rowing club located on the North shore of Massachusetts whose members share a love for salt water recreational rowing and the spirit of friendship between each other. The club took part in the Rotary Great Race several months ago with a course that ended at Devereux beach.  I found this kayak lying on the sand after [...]

Keep it Local – Stand up Paddleboarding

It's local business Friday and this is one of the newest businesses in town - Standup paddle-boarding.  This new approach to exploring the harbors in town came on to the scene at the end of June and really took off.  I was on Brown's Island when I saw this group float by and took this photo to illustrate just how close you can get to various landmarks by paddle-boarding.  Plus, as the weather cools, it is nice to be reminded of the amazing options that abound in the Summer.  Stay warm...

Keep it Local – Shipshape

It's Friday so it is time to showcase another local business.  Today it's Shipshape's turn.  This is a wonderful store on Washington Street specializing in nautical items and carrying local artisans work.  Visit their website to see a small sample of what's available or, better yet, walk down Washington Street and see for yourself.

Keep it Local – French + Italian

Another Friday and another local business to feature on the site.  This time it's the upscale women's clothier French + Italian.  I took this photo on an early morning during the Winter parking ban in order to make sure that no cars would hide the beautiful facade of this store and building.  There was so much to take in about this store.  From the clapboard siding, the complementary colors of the two doors, the lightpost, and the morning sun lighting the top of the building, this was a wonderfully intricate scene to capture.  Next time you're on Washington Street, make [...]

Keep it Local – The Bus Stop

It's hard to believe that the Bus Stop has been open and clothing the citizens of Marblehead since 1975.  I had just finished running an errand in town and noted that the flowers encircling the entrance had reached full bloom.  Ironically, I had to wait 15 minutes for the bus to come and pick up two people waiting out front.  It just so happened that the sun decided to peak through the clouds just as the bus pulled away revealing the store and its waving flag.

Keep it Local – Hand in Hand Massage

Fridays feature local businesses and today's entry is Hand in Hand massage.  Blane and Monique have been in practice as massage therapists for over 20 years.  Three years ago, they moved to this historic location on beautiful State Street.  I was fortunate to have a postcard-perfect sunrise when I took this image.  Both therapists are incredibly good at what they do which I was reminded of just this past weekend when I received a chair massage at the Rotary Great Race.  Do yourself a favor and make an appointment with them soon. The house's fascinating history is written on the [...]

Keep it Local – Coffey Ice Cream

It's seven o'clock at night on an early September day.  We just got through three straight days of rain and the sun shone for a wonderful few hours.  Had a great home cooked meal and decided we needed one last ice cream run.  While my wife bathed the kids, I drove out to Coffey Ice Cream and was thrilled to see they were still open.  Got a scoop of Death by Chocolate and Cookie Dough for her; Apple pie and Mocha Chip for me and stopped to chat for a bit with the owner.  Turns out that Coffey Ice Cream [...]
