Ready for a Round of Golf at the Tedesco Country Club

On Fridays, I try to focus on a local business and the Tedesco Country Club may be the newest oldest one that I have photographed to date.  Incorporated over one hundred years ago, the main house recently completed construction.  I drove out here this past Wednesday wondering if the interplay of clouds would make for an interesting sunset.  I was rewarded with the presence of two golf bags standing in front of the putting green and knew that I had the composition I was after.  The subtle sunset light helped as well.  Enjoy the image and have a great Labor [...]

Keep it Local – Atomic Cafe

Another Friday means another local business is featured on the site.  Today we see Atomic Cafe that can be found in a great brick and glass setting on School street next door to the Little Theater.  I stopped here one day while walking around Five Corners and noticed that the normally crowded streets were nearly empty of cars.  Seemed like a great opportunity to shoot Atomic Cafe and, as luck would have it, the windows had just been cleaned (notice the pool of water on the street).  Make sure you stop in and try the coffee they roast themselves...you may [...]

Keep it Local – Comina

Fridays are for local businesses and today features Comina at 39 Atlantic Avenue.  I was walking down Atlantic Avenue in mid-June on an especially beautiful day and looked for businesses featuring interesting architecture.  I first noticed some glass finiales in the window at Comina and it was only after crossing the street that I noted the great architecture of the building.  After shooting the exterior, I promises the owner that I would post this to the site in the next few weeks.  Two months later and I finally am clearing the backlog of photos of this picturesque town.

Keep it Local – The Hurricane

Continuing with the Friday focus on local businesses, here is The Hurricane.  I had tried to shoot the Hurricane once before but it didn't come out quite right.  When I walked by on a warm Summer day and saw the doors and windows open, I knew I had my opportunity to get the image I had wanted.  Those open doors seem to beckon you to come inside, have a seat, grab a beer and enjoy a Red Sox game... The Hurricane is located at 259 Washington Street at Five Corners

Keep it Local – Becky’s Gourmet

I stopped in at Becky's Gourmet a few weeks ago craving something for lunch and noted the beautiful flowers outside the store and another display on the interior.  I decided that this would make a great entry in the series looking at local businesses.  Becky's offers a really nice selection of fresh fruits/vegetables as well as baked goods.  She also carries meat from Danver's butcherie.  That day I decided to try the gazpacho which is really good - perfect amount of spice and nice texture from the cuts of tomatoes and other vegetables. Stop in for yourself at 10 Bessom [...]

Keep it Local – 5 Corners Kitchen

As part of a series focusing on businesses in Marblehead, I had the opportunity to photograph 5 Corners Kitchen on a recent Wednesday.  For those who haven't eaten here yet, I can't describe the food any better than Chef Barry Edelman has: "whatever’s good, whatever’s fresh, whatever’s local".  The location is great, atmosphere is fun and the food really is incredible.

Keep it Local – Flores Mantilla

This is the first entry in a series that will focus on Marblehead businesses.  I visited the Flores Mantilla flower shop (link to website) on May 8th to pick up an arrangement for my wife in honor of Mother's day.  Though I had passed the shop many times, this was my first opportunity to marvel at the outdoor and indoor display of flowers.  After purchasing the bouquet, I asked Nancy if she would mind my photographing her shop for this site.  On a recent Wednesday morning, I had the chance to do so and was rewarded with some nice light. [...]

Early Morning on Washington Street

Today's post features two images from Washington Street taken in the early morning hours.  Above are the wonderful shops that line this crowded street before any parked cars could disturb this tranquil scene.  Below is the view of Pleasant Street and one of my (and my son's) favorite buildings that houses Mud Puddle toys.  Exploring Old Town in these early hours provides a very peaceful and calm feeling - I highly recommend the experience if you're willing to brave the cold and give up the extra hour of sleep....

The Barnacle

It feels good to be out shooting again!  Today was my first chance to pick up the camera in two weeks.  Headed out about 3pm and wandered around town trying to decide what to shoot.  Headed down State Street (that shot is coming next week...) and ended up driving up Front Street.  When I got to the barnacle, I looked to the right and saw massive waves left over from the recent storms.  They were just starting to recede after the high tide.  I grabbed my gear including a 10-stop filter to let me take very long exposures.  This one [...]
