Year in Review 2014 – Annual New Year’s Day Slideshow

[KGVID poster="https://wednesdaysinmhd.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Horizontal.jpg" width="854" height="480"]https://wednesdaysinmhd.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Year-End-Review-2014-540.mp4[/KGVID] For anyone who is new to my site and/or Facebook page, I thought I would start with a bit of a recap.  I moved to Marblehead with my family in May 2008.  In August 2010, I started 'Wednesdays in Marblehead' as a project to help me learn more about my new home town.  The original plan to was to share new photos once a week.  I stuck with that scheduled for the first few months but quickly discovered just how photogenic the Town of Marblehead could be.  I started to shoot various themes and set aside [...]

Historic Marblehead and Harbor from Atop Abbot Hall

I mentioned in yesterday's post that a combination of luck, circumstances and a commission to document the effort to restore Abbot Hall led me to the top of the scaffolding surrounding the building in November.  While I spent much of my allotted time photographing details of the work, I couldn't help but take in the incredible views of historic Marblehead and harbor from atop Abbot Hall. This is my favorite view from this once-in-a-lifetime vantage point with all of historic downtown captured in a single frame.  The harbor and Marblehead Light can be seen in the distance as can many [...]

A New Weathervane atop Abbot Hall Tower

Ever since the scaffolding went up around Abbot Hall as part of a restoration project, I searched for a way to the top for what promised to be incredible views and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.  As the Summer passed and the main avenues I could pursue kept closing, I started to lose hope. In late November, I was invited to receive a certificate of recognition from the Old Marblehead Improvement Association.  As I listened to speeches and saw other awards handed out, I noted that all of the key members of the Abbot Hall restoration project were gathered in this one place! [...]

A Marblehead Christmas

When I first spotted this little dinghy in Little Harbor with a Christmas tree in it, I knew I had to find a way to capture this perfect representation of a Marblehead Christmas.  I scouted out the location and decided that I really needed snow and/or lights on the tree and Marblehead Light in the distance to complete the scene. As luck would have it, we received some ocean-effect snow flurries on Saturday, December 20th and I rushed out to Little Harbor.  Unfortunately, the lights in the tree had shorted during a recent storm and those on Marblehead Light seem [...]

Redd’s Pond Covered in Snow

Another image of snow - this one from January 3, 2014.  This was a more intense storm during which I captured huge waves crashing on the causeway and later a view of ice from water that had spilled over near the Barnacle. This was a much quieter scene than those with Redd's Pond covered in snow and not a footprint to be found among the blanket of white.
